Kohler CV980

The Kohler CV980 is a 999 cc, (61.0 cu·in) V-twin air-cooled four-stroke internal combustion gasoline engine from the Command PRO series, manufactured by Kohler Co.

The Kohler CV980 engine has an OHV (overhead valve) design, an aluminum block with cast iron cylinder liners, vertical PTO-shaft, pressurized lubrication system. This engine is equipped with a two-barrel, side-draft carburetor with fixed main jets and CDI/MDI or Digital Spark Advance Ignition (DSAI) ignition system.

Cylinder bore and piston stroke are 90.0 mm (3.54 in) and 78.5 mm (3.09 in), respectively. Compression ratio rating is 8.8:1.

The CV980 engine produces 35.5 PS (26.1 KW; 35.0 HP) at 3,600 rpm of horsepower and 74.0 Nm (7.55 kg·m; 54.6 ft·lb) at 2,600 rpm of torque.

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • C – Command series
  • V – Vertical PTO shaft
  • 980 – Numerical designation
