The Opel Z10XEP is a 1.0 l (998 cc, 60.9 cu-in) straight-three four-stroke natural aspirated gasoline small-displacement engine from the second generation of the GM Family O Ecotec engines, developed by Opel, at the time a subsidiary of General Motors. The engine was manufactured since 2002.
The Opel Z10XEP engine uses a light-weight cast-iron semi-closed deck engine block with a cast-iron crankshaft and aluminum head with dual chain-driven overhead camshafts (DOHC) and four valves per cylinder (12 valves in total). It is an updated version of the Z10XE engine and features TwinPort technology – twin intake ports with a choke closing one of the ports at low RPM, providing strong air swirl pattern for higher torque levels and better fuel economy. The crankshaft and oil galleries were also redesigned.
Cylinder bore has been increased from 72.5 mm (2.85 in) to 73.4 mm (2.89 in) and compression ratio rating has been increased from 10.1:1 to 10.5:1.
The Opel Z10XEP has a 73.4 mm (2.89 in) cylinder bore and 78.6 mm (3.09 in) piston stroke. Compression ratio rating is 10.5:1. The Z10XEP engine produces 60 PS (44 kW; 59 HP) at 5,600 rpm of maximum horsepower and 88 Nm (9.0 kg·m; 64.9 ft·lb) at 3,800 rpm of peak torque.
The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:
- Z – Euro 4 engine
- 10 – 1.0 Liter displacement
- X – Comression ratio from 10 to 11.5:1
- E – Multi Point Fuel Injection system
- P – Increased power
