Suzuki G13BB

Suzuki G13BBThe Suzuki G13BB is a 1.3 L (1,298 cc, 79.2 cu·in) straight-four 4-stroke natural aspirated gasoline engine from the Suzuki G-family. The G13BB engine was manufactured by Suzuki Motor Corporation.

The Suzuki G13BB engine features an aluminum cylinder block with wet liners and aluminum cylinder head with single overhead camshafts (SOHC) and four valves per cylinder (16 in total). A 74.0 mm (2.91 in) cylinder bore and 75.5 mm (2.97 in) piston stroke give the G13BB engine a total of 1,298 cc (79.2 cu·in) of displacement. Compression ratio rating is 9.5:1. The G13BB engine is equipped with Multi-point fuel injection (MPFI) and electronic ignition system with one ignition coil for two spark plugs.

This engine produced from 76 PS (56 kW; 75 HP) at 5,500 rpm to 86 PS (63 kW; 84 HP) at 6,000 rpm of maximum horsepower and from 104 N·m (10.6 kg·m, 76.6 ft·lb) at 4,500 rpm to 115 N·m (11.7 kg·m, 84.8 ft·lb) at 4,250 rpm of peak torque.

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • G – Engine family

Cylinder block

The Suzuki G13BB cylinder block is made of cast aluminum alloy and has 4 cylinders arranged “In-Line”. A cylindrical cast iron sleeve is installed in each cylinder. The cylinder bore is 74.0 mm (2.91 in) and the piston stroke is 75.5 mm (2.97 in). Compression ratio rating is 9.5:1.

A monoblock casting crankshaft is supported by five main bearings. The piston is cast aluminum alloy and has two compression rings and one oil ring. Piston pins are made of chromium steel and have a floating fit in the pistons and in the connecting rods. The connecting rods are made of forged steel, and the rod bearings are of precision insert type.

Cylinder head

The cylinder head is made of an aluminum casting which gives it good cooling efficiency. The supporting part of the camshaft is an independent cap type. The engine has a single overhead camshaft design with four valves per cylinder. The combustion chamber used the center plug type pent roof shape for higher intake and exhaust efficiency. The Suzuki G13BB engine did not have hydraulic lifters, so special valve shims are used to adjust the valve clearance.

  1. I have one Query . I have an old Suzuki baleno 2005 model its engine is given smoke . I want to swap engine . I want to swap engine with latest model Twine came . like .Suzuki M 13, M16, or Toyota N1 etc . I have need your suggestion witch twine cam engine is suitable for my car . hope reply soon . regards

    • Honestly you best option would be a J18 or J20 as the GLX came with a j18 so engine mounts and harnesses would be readily available. If you have no problem with the mount fabrication I’d go with the M16.

  2. It is mentioned that API SJ, SG, SL and SM are all recommended, the G13bb has flat tappets, which require more ZDDP, in this case the API SJ/SG is fhe the only recommended oil i think. What you say

  3. I have a Suzuki Landy with a G13B engine, I have been told it needs a cam and throttle sensor – does anyone know how I can procure it?

  4. I have a G13BB in a Wagon R+. It has a belt driven camshaft, this article states that it has a chain drive.
