Cylinder block

The Suzuki G16B cylinder block is made of cast aluminum alloy and has 4 cylinders arranged “In-Line”. A cylindrical cast iron sleeve is installed in each cylinder. It has a 75.0 mm (2.95 in) cylinder bore and 90.0 mm (3.54 in) piston stroke. Compression ratio rating is 9.5:1.

A monoblock casting crankshaft is supported by five main bearings. The piston is cast aluminum alloy and has two compression rings and one oil ring. Piston pins are made of chromium steel and have a floating fit in the pistons and in the connecting rods. The connecting rods are made of forged steel, and the rod bearings are of precision insert type.

Cylinder head

The cylinder head is made of an aluminum casting which gives it good cooling efficiency. The supporting part of the camshaft is an independent cap type. The engine has a single overhead camshaft design with four valves per cylinder. The combustion chamber used the center plug type pent roof shape for higher intake and exhaust efficiency. The Suzuki G16B engine did not have hydraulic lifters, so special valve shims are used to adjust the valve clearance.

  1. Trying to figure out if there is a difference between a head that has a stamp with S-9 overghe letter Z and a head that is stamped S-6 over the star star symbol.

  2. whomever wrote the specs on this motor needs to go back to school and stop ******* lying to people. It does not have a wasted spark system. It has a distributor spark system. The compression ratios given her wrong. As is. The valve clearance adjustments. They aren’t shimmed in this motor. Really shouldn’t lead people down the wrong path. When the name of your website is engine-specs.net do your proper research.

    • sorry to break it to ya, but i think you have either an older version or they made 2 versions of this engine. since i do have this type of engine with wasted spark.

  3. Thank you for info , i will have on file, i am not a mechanic , i am rehabilitating a 1999 vitara 16B 4 doors 4/4 cause i finf the Vitara worthy to be rehave , it has 200,000 kms run and i enjoy driving it, to be honest i enjoy during along with or better than most expensive cars i have , its performance as a 4/4 is excellent. The 16 Valve engine is smooth and still makes 12 kms per liter ‼️

  4. Experts advise required: Can I change G16B engine with M16 engine in my cultus crescent? What is the difference in engine mounts? Thanks
