BMW M50B24TU

BMW M50B24TUThe BMW M50B24TU is a 2.4 liters (2,394 cc, 146.1 cu·in) straight-six, four-stroke cycle natural aspirated gasoline engine from BMW M50-family. The engine was manufactured from 1992 to 1996 and used in the Thailand and Oceania markets. This engine is based on the M50B25TU with the stroke reduced to 72 mm (2.83 in).

The BMW M50B24TU engine features a cast-iron block and aluminum head with a dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) and four valves per cylinder (24 in total). The engine is equipped with an electronic fuel injection system (DME M3.3.1), VANOS (Variable Valve Timing System from BMW) for inlet camshaft, coil-on-plug ignition system, a knock sensor, and a lightweight plastic intake manifold.

The engine has an 84.0 mm (3.31 in) cylinder bore and 72.0 mm (2.83 in) piston stroke. This engine has a compression ratio rating of 10.5:1 and a redline of 6,500 rpm. The BMW M50B24TU engine produced 188 PS (138 KW; 185 HP) at 5,900 rpm of maximum output power and 240 Nm (24.5 kg·m; 177.1 ft·lb) at 4,200 rpm of peak torque.

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • M50 – Engine Family
  • B – Gasoline
  • 24 – 2.4 Liter Displacement
  • TU – Technical Update
