The BMW N43B16 is a 1.6 liters (1,599 cc, 97.6 cu·in) straight-four, four-stroke cycle natural aspirated gasoline engine from the BMW N43-family. The engine was manufactured from 2007 to 2011 on the BMW Plant Hams Hall (Coleshill, Birmingham, United Kingdom).
The N43B16 engine features an aluminum cylinder block and aluminum head with a dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) and four valves per cylinder (16 in total). The cylinder bore is 82 mm (3.23 in) and the piston stroke is 75.7 mm (2.98 in)). Compression ratio rating is 11.7:1. This engine used a direct injection fuel system and the Siemens MSD 81.2 engine management system, dual VANOS (Variable Valve Timing System from BMW) for both inlet and exhaust camshafts, fully electronic throttle without mechanical backup.
The BMW N43B16 engine produced 122.5 PS (90.0 KW; 121.0 HP) at 6,000 rpm of maximum output power and 160 Nm (16.3 kg·m; 118.1 ft·lb) at 4,250 rpm of peak torque
The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:
- N43 – Engine Family
- B – Gasoline
- 16 – 1.6 Liter Displacement
