The Chrysler PowerTech 4.7 L (also known as Dodge 4.7L Magnum) is a 4.7 l (4,701 cc, 287.0 cu.in.) natural aspirated V8 90° four-stroke gasoline engine manufactured by Chrysler in Detroit, Michigan, USA from 1999 to 2013. The PowerTech 4.7 L was on the Ward’s 10 Best Engines list for 1999.
The Chrysler PowerTech 4.7 L features a cast-iron block and two aluminum cylinder heads with a single camshaft (SOHC) and two valves per cylinder (16 valves in total). The Chrysler 4.7L PowerTech/Magnum engine is equipped with a sequential multiport fuel injection system and an electronic ignition system with a separate ignition coil for each cylinder.
The compression ratio rating is 9.0:1, 9.7:1 for HO (High-Output) version, 9.8:1 after 2008. The cylinder bore and the piston stroke are 93.0 mm (3.66 in) and 86.5 mm (3.41 in), respectively. This engine produces 238 PS (175 kW; 235 HP) at 4,800 rpm of horsepower and 400 N·m (40.8 kg·m, 294.8 ft·lb) at 3,200 rpm of maximum torque.
In 2002, Chrysler introduced a “High-Output” version of the PowerTech 4.7L engine. This engine produced 269 PS (198 KW; 265 HP) at 4,800 rpm of output power and 447 Nm (45.59 kg·m; 329.89 ft·lb) at 3,200 rpm of peak torque. This version was available for Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland as a standard engine and for Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited as an option. The Chrysler 4.7L V8 HO engine used high-compression domed pistons (the compression ratio rating is 9.7:1), new camshafts, tuned intake, and two knock sensors.
