The Kohler CH440 is a 429 cc (24.7 cu·in) single-cylinder air-cooled four-stroke internal combustion gasoline engine from the Command PRO series, manufactured by Kohler Co.
The Kohler CH440 engine has an OHV (overhead valve) design, an aluminum block with cast iron cylinder liners, a horizontal PTO-shaft, splash type lubrication system. This engine is equipped with a fixed main jet carburetor and dependable electronic magneto ignition system. Fuel tank capacity is 7.0 liters (7.4 US.qts, 6.16 Imp. qts).
A 89.0 mm (3.50 in) cylinder bore and 69.0 mm (2.70 in) piston stroke give the CH440 engine a total of 429 cc of displacement. The compression ratio rating is 8.0:1.
This engine produces 14.3 PS (10.5 KW; 14.0 HP) at 3,600 rpm of maximum horsepower and 30.5 Nm (3.1 kg·m; 22.5 ft·lb) at 2,800 rpm of peak torque.
This engine is available in dual-fuel conversion, as the Kohler CH440DF engine. It is designed to operate on gasoline and propane fuels with installation of dual-fuel conversion kit.
The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:
- C – Command series
- H – Horizontal PTO shaft
- 440 – Numerical designation
