Nissan L24

Nissan L24 engineThe Nissan (Datsun) L24 / L24T is a 2.4 liter (2,393 cc, 146.0 cu-in) straight-six, four-stroke cycle natural aspirated gasoline engine from Nissan L-family. The L24 engine was produced from 1969 through 1984. This engine is of the same design and external appearance as L20A.

The Nissan-Datsun L24 engine features a cast-iron block, a wedge-shaped combustion chamber, aluminum head with overhead camshaft and a fully balanced 7-bearing crankshaft and. The cylinder block is cast in a single unit and features deep skirting. The L24 is equipped with a single, two-barrel, downdraft carburetor. The SU twin carburetor provides a proper air-fuel mixture for the L24T engine.

The L24 with single carburetor has a compression ratio rating of 8.5:1, the L24T with SU twin-carb 9.0:1. Cylinder bore and piston stroke are 83.0 mm (3.27 in) and 73.7 mm (2.90 in), respectively. The L24 produced 130 PS (128 HP, 95 kW) of horsepower and 195 Nm (19.9 kg⋅m; 145 ft-lb) of torque. The L24T produced 150 PS (147 HP, 110 kW) and 197 Nm (20.1 kg⋅m; 146 ft-lb).

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • L – Engine Family
  • 24 – 2.4 Liter Displacement

Cylinder block

The L24 engine has a cast-iron cylinder block, bore is 83.0 mm (3.27 in) and stroke is 73.7 mm (2.90 in). The cylinder block, a monoblock specially cast structure, employs the seven bearing support system for quietness and higher durability. The pistons are each fitted with two compression rings and a single oil ring.

The crankshaft of L24 engine is fabricated of special forged steel. Provided with a high capacity balance weight. Light-weight pistons are of cast aluminum slipper-skirt type with invar-strut. The piston pin is of a special hollow type and is connected to the piston in a full-floating fit, and is press-fitted into the connecting rods. The connecting rods are made of special forged steel.
