Nissan L28ET

Nissan L28ETThe Nissan / Datsun L28ET is a 2.8 liter (2753 cc) six cylinders inline, four-stroke cycle water-cooled turbocharged internal combustion gasoline engine from Nissan L-family.

The Nissan / Datsun L28ET engine features a cast-iron block, a wedge-shaped combustion chamber, aluminum head with overhead camshaft and a fully balanced 7-bearing crankshaft. The cylinder block is cast in a single unit and features deep skirting. The L28ET is equipped with electronic multiport fuel injection system, a single Garrett AiResearch TB03 internally wastegated turbocharger without intercooler and new engine control system, Nissan’s Electronic Concentrated Control System (ECCS).

It has an 86 mm (3.39 in) cylinder bore and 79 mm (3.11 in) piston stroke with. Compression ratio rating is 7.4:1 The L28ET turbo produced from 182 PS (134 kW; 180 HP) of horsepower and 274 Nm (27.95 kg·m; 202.21 ft·lb) of torque.

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • L – Engine Family
  • 28 – 2.8 Liter Displacement
  • E – Multi Point Fuel Injection
  • T – Turbocharger

Cylinder head

The L20ET has a SOHC design (single overhead camshaft) with twelve valves (two per cylinder). The cylinder head is made of a light, strong aluminum alloy with good cooling efficiency. Intake valves are 44 mm (1.73 in) in diameter and the exhaust valves are 35 mm (1.37 in). The early versions of L28ET were equipped with adjustable mechanical rockers though these were phased out after September 1982 in favor of hydraulic rockers.
