Nissan Z16S

Nissan Z16SThe Nissan Z16 or Z16S is a carbureted 1.6 liter (1,595 cc, 97.33 cu in) straight-four, four-stroke cycle gasoline from Nissan Z-family. The Z16 engine was producted from 1978.

The Nissan Z16S engine features a cast-iron block and aluminum alloy cylinder head with SOHC design and two valves per cylinder (8 valves in total). The engine has two ignition plugs per cylinder, but for some commercial vehicles, a single-spark plug head was used.

It has an 83.0 mm (3.27 in) cylinder bore and 73.7 mm (2.87 in) piston stroke with a compression ratio of 8.8:1. It produced 95 PS (70 kW, 94 HP) at 6,000 rpm of horsepower and 132 Nm (13.5 kg·m, 97.3 ft-lb) at 3,600 rpm of torque.

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • Z – Engine Family
  • 16 – 1.6 Liter Displacement
  • S – carburetor

Cylinder block

The Z16S engine has a cast-iron cylinder block, bore is 83.0 mm (3.27 in) and stroke is 73.7 mm (2.87 in). The cylinder block, a monoblock specially cast structure with replaceable liners, employs the five bearing support system. The pistons are each fitted with two compression rings and a single oil ring. The cylinder block height is 307.85 mm (12.12 in).
